Features good, longevity so-so
This is my third GE Spacemaker. Not long after buying my house, the microwave died (oh the horror). It was about seven years old. Despite reading about reliability problems, I bought an identical unit. It lasted five years. I think the days of passing your appliances on to your grandchildren are over, alas.
Leaving longevity out, I like the GE. The controls are easy and convenient and you don't need to dig out the darned manual everytime you have to reset the clock. I like the turntable. The unit is easy to clean. I don't want a lot of fancy features when all I do is heat leftovers and zap TV dinners and popcorn. I also appreciate that the mounting footprint is identical to previous models. I think the price is reasonable for what you get.
Design Flaw - No Longer a "Spacemaker"
Extra inches were added to newly rounded door for no good reason leaving less space between the bottom of the microwave and the top of the stove. This makes it difficult to maneuver tall pots and pans or to use a long spoon for stirring. This is potentially hazardous to the cook which in my opinion is a safety concern. GE needs to return to the earlier straight-edge design.
